Don’t forget to pack these things for your photographer to use on your wedding day!

It’s no secret that everyone loves the pretty details shots when looking at wedding photos. Here are our top tips to make sure that your meaningful details are extra beautiful on your wedding day.

1. Jewelry – go beyond just your wedding rings

Your photographer will probably spend more time with your wedding rings – and engagement ring – than your jeweller did! But seriously, they love to create special vignettes with your rings so a lot of time and care will be spent on those images. But think beyond just the main rings – for women, are you wearing earrings, a necklace, or a bracelet? Maybe an heirloom right-hand ring? For the men, we often see monogrammed cufflinks and tie bars. Don’t forget the watches or other rings that the guys may want to wear too on their wedding day.

  • Gather all of the jewelry you want photographed together the day before your wedding – place in a travel jewelry pouch or in a small box so that it can all stay together.
  • Include the original ring boxes or other boxes (like Anna’s heirloom pearls above!) or purchase a fancy ring box in your wedding colors.

2. Paper Suite – bring several copies of each piece

Crafting the perfect paper suite flay lay is nothing short of an art form, and many photographers love to play with all of the pieces you may have in your suite. We always recommend including 2-3 of each piece – don’t forget the envelopes and stamps too!

Always bring at least one outer envelope fully addressed, but that has NOT been mailed. This way the lovely calligraphy or handlettering can shine in the photos!

Here are some of the possibilities to have in your paper suite:

  • Invitation & outer envelope
  • Enclosure card / RSVP card & envelopes
  • Directions or other information cards
  • Ceremony program
  • Dinner menu

3. Create or rent a Styling Kit

One of the best ways to help create a cohesive look for your details images is to curate what we call a styling kit. This kit can include things to help accent the pieces you want to be photographed in your wedding colors and design. Think about silk or chiffon ribbons, velvet ring boxes, little trays or books, ring dishes or small accent plates, swatches of fabric, vintage stamps…the possibilities are endless! And this is an excellent way to bring in some of your personalities, hobbies, or special keepsakes – bring those special Logo pieces, your favorite book, or the letters you wrote one another.

Ask your wedding planner for help curating a styling kit, or if you live in the Birmingham area, PropHouse Birmingham rents custom styling kits for around $100!
